Shadow and spaces

This aching house

Tripped up my mood today

Without warning.

The celebration of a life well lived

Has now ebbed away,

Leaving shadows

And yawning empty spaces.

And what of time?

Will it heal?

Yes,

But in expected ways.

The days will pass,

But it is not time alone that does the work.

We’ll try speaking to the shadows

And filling those empty spaces,

Not with your figure,

But with new things.

Time gives us the space

To practice living in a new way

In a new world.
