A is for angel who acted as messenger
B is for Bethlehem, full – save for a manger
C is for candles , burning brightly
D is for dancing, practising nightly
E is for energy, a resource that plays tricks.
F is for fairies, distributing magic
G is for Grandparents and the history they bring
H is for holly and the prickles that sting
I is for ivy, that winds into song
J is for jam making, messy and long
K is for kings – those mysterious three
L is for lights that wind round the tree
M is for mothers, the whole world over
N is for night time, pause to recover
O is for ‘once in royal’ arresting, eternal
P is for peace, that seems so ephemeral
Q is for queueing, hard to escape
R is for relatives, arriving early or late
S is for snow a thing of the past
T is for turkey, ready at last
U is for unplanned, there’s usually something,
V is for Venus, a christmas star – dazzling.
W is for wishes – can hope triumph fear?
X is for kisses, on messages and for real
Y is for you, you light up my life,
Z is for sleeping, on this Christmas night.
