Hanging low in the evening light
Planet Venus dazzles.
She was always my ‘Christmas star’
The light to look out for,
Shining out over the Dee estuary,
Glimmering over bands of silver marsh and sea.
Her coming
Heralded practising of readings and music
For carol concerts in cold echoing churches,
End of term excitement
And home days over the holiday.
And still,
Her light continues to stand out,
In this 21st century – gleaming,
Brilliant, constant, comforting.
