Stir up oh Lord, the wills of they faithful people…
But which Lord, and which people?
Do they worship under house, minnaret or steeple?
And does it really matter ?
A firm belief in any deity
Keeps a sense of context, control :
A framework around which to live –
Compassion, kindness, understanding
Isn’t this what we are aiming for, not withstanding
Our different gods?
So this ‘Stir up’ Sunday
As i create the puddings, the cake
I’ll make
A new prayer:
Stir up oh Lords, the will of thy faithful peoples
That they, trusting in your goodness
Will find a way to walk, to work, to wonder together
At your manifold and great mercies
And all will bring forth the fruit of good works
To create a more peaceful world.
