Pandemic nights: restless, uncertain
Watching for light behind the curtain
To slowly flood the day ahead
Listening to classics as I lie in bed
To block the dance of myth and fear
That mingles with scientific fact both clear
And terrifying.
To mask or not to mask?
That is one question
Others jostle in my head, clamouring for attention:
When will shielding stop?
What happens if we catch it?
When did I last call my family?
When can we travel?
Where are we safe?
When
Will
It
End?
Phone and earphones by our bedside
I have listened to audiobooks, plays and opera through these dark hours
Aware that I’m waiting for the blackbird’s solo
That heralds the dawn chorus
And the start of a new day.
